Supreme Court Victoria

Our Day(s) in the Supreme Court Have Arrived

On behalf of all community members affected by the WRL and VNI West proposed high voltage transmission projects in Western Victoria we wish to extend our thanks for the donations and support that have led to this action.

Chair Emma Muir commented, “We are very pleased that the litigation has progressed to a hearing so quickly and we look forward to this matter being heard by the court.

The hearing of the Alliance’s application challenging orders made by the Minister for Energy under the National Electricity (Victoria) Act 2005 (Vic) in February and May begins in the Supreme Court of Victoria on 7 September 2023 and is estimated to run for four days (September 8, 11, and 12).

Detailed written submissions and comprehensive affidavits have been filed by the Alliance and the Alliance has sought production of relevant documents from the Minister in advance of the hearing.  The production of one document remains in dispute.

  • The Alliance is represented by Thomson Geer.
  • The counsel team is led by Nick Wood SC.  He will appear with Cal Viney and Elodie Nadon of counsel.
  • A short update will be prepared by Thomson Geer and circulated by the Alliance to members each day of the hearing.

You may watch the proceedings, which commence at 10am on 7 September, via the below link:
